Export of Major Commodities from Nepal. Source: Nepal Rastra Bank

Total export of major commodities increased in first five months of FY 2019/020 by 60.9% over previous year mainly due to increase in export of palm oil where value addition in Nepal is not significant. If we exclude palm oil data, growth in export of major commodities turns out to be marginal (0.7%). As the India has decided to restrict import of palm oil, this scenario will be likely in near future. Export of cardamom and jute goods increased significantly during the same period. A significant fall in the export of ready-made garments, juice and pashmina was observed.
